And there you go...I received my Limited Edition of Sad Movie today, and it is a beautiful package! Two discs, loads of extra material, photos and a small book (in Korean though). I will see this one again VERY soon.

Yesterday, I watched "münich" at the cinema, and I am left with a split opinion. First of all, I had expected that the film would be more about the terrorist act itself, kind of a documentary. But this "event" had only a small part in the film. On the other hand, the chase for the terrorists - that was the story, or at least what the story was built on.
To his credit, Eric Bana does a very good job in the role of Avner K. However, the story itself tends to get a little boring, and too slow at times. I found some of the scenes where he and his partners try to get those terrorists quite exciting, but did they have to include every hit? The fifth time or so, you (or I) get tired from the hunting...
Also, it is very political, which is both good and bad for the film, and I will not reveal anything about the directions of the political "debate" in the film.
It is a film to be seen, but for my taste, it can wait until the DVD release.
6 out of 10 points.

Park Chan-wook Vengeance Trilogy

Friday February 10th is a happy-day for Park fans, as Trondheim film club is showing his Vengeance trilogy . If you have not seen any of his films, this is the place to visit this Friday!
For me, Oldboy is the best, followed by Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. So if you're exhausted after the first, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, it all gets better from then.

Seen "Naboer", a Norwegian film directed by Pål Sletaune. Pretty okey, but nothing big for me...

A Bittersweet Life - review

One fine spring day a disciple looked at some branches blowing in the wind. He asked his master,
"Master, are the branches moving or is it the wind?"
Not even glancing to where his pupil was pointing the master smiled and said,
"That which moves is neither the branches nor the wind...
"It is your heart and mind!"

And so opens A Bittersweet Life, a film I had never heard about until lately, and so ordered it right away. Just reading about this film made me curious. I didn't have huge expectations, but I again find myself surprised and amazed about a Korean film. I can't write anything about the plot, as I have no intention of spoiling this.
As with Lady V., I at some point had to look at the elapsed time, and once again I had not gotten any further than 30 minutes... I smiled, knowing I had at least another hour of entertainment! It turned out to be longer though, which was sort of a bonus.
Not everything was brilliant, but I have to give this film 8/10 score. Why?
If you liked Oldboy, Kill Bill and Scarface you will know why. Enjoy!

Today I received "A Bittersweet Life", another Korean film, and if I am to judge by the first look at this, it will be great! I am looking forward to this tonight...A review will surely follow.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Well, I was lucky to find Lady V. at yesasia.com, and I ordered it immediately! I invited my friend the other day and watched it for the first time, and this probably being the first time it is screened in Norway, it is quite special.
This film certainly is different. After I came across Oldboy I became a huge fan of Park, and I had lots of expectations for Lady V.
After 30 minutes I told Matz, my friend, that this is Asian film for the more advanced. There is so much information and characters that you need to focus and pay attention. Also, I was impressed with the build up. The story caught my interest and had me going most of the film. The excitement curve had a low point, but on a general basis I would give this 7 out of 10 points.
The photography is fantastic, and the locations...well. The man has an eye for detail. The performances of the actors are impressive, and if you liked Oldboy's expressions, you are going to like his sounds this time around as well. Get it from global.yesasia.com and enjoy!
